The Irish Ocean Literacy Network was formed in 2016. In 2023 it became a formal network by forming a company limited by guarantee (CLG). Membership is currently free however to create a sustainable funding model the network will be moving to a fee paying structure in 2024.
The current membership consists of individuals and organisations from a diverse range of backgrounds including NGO’S, Public/ Government, attraction, academic, media and general interest.
The IOLN goals include creating a membership of Ocean Literacy Champions on the island of Ireland, who collaborate, share and co-ordinate marine outreach and Ocean Literacy projects, while providing a platform for engagement between stakeholders.
It should be noted that the IOLN is not a lobbying organisation and that is main focus is on networking and sharing ideas between its vibrant and active members.
